November 2013 New Releases

While 2013 may be winding down, there are still many books coming out!  Here are some that I am most excited for.

November 5

Champion by Marie Lu
#3 in the Legend Series

Why I'm Excited:  I read Legend earlier this year and really enjoyed it.  Now that the final book in the series is coming out I think I'll have to do a re-read and marathon the whole series!

Curtsies & Conspiracies by Gail Carriger
#2 in the Finishing School series

Why I'm Excited:  This is another author I need to get started with.  I am so interested in her Parasol Protectorate series and this YA prequel as well!

November 19

World After by Susan Ee
#2 in the Penryn & the End of Days series

Why I'm Excited:  The first book in this series, Angelfall, has been on my radar since it was published.  It's gotten rave reviews and I really want to read it!

The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead
#4 in the Bloodlines series

Why I'm Excited:  Ok, I need to read this series.  I have so much hardcore love for Vampire Academy, I HAVE to get to this series.  There is no excuse!

 Other Notable Releases

November 5 - Cold Spell by Jackson Pearce
                        The Trap by Andrew Fukuda

October 2013 New Releases

Hi guys!  Sorry I'm a little late posting this, I got super sick (strep throat is no fun!).  But without further delay, let's discuss some of the October new releases!

October 1

Unbreakable by Kami Garcia
#1 in the Legion series

Why I'm Excited:  Unbreakable is described as "Supernatural meets The Da Vinci Code".  Um, yes!  A secret society of demon hunters?  Cool.

October 8

Emerald Green Kerstin Gier
#3 in the Ruby Red trilogy

Why I'm Excited:  First this cover is gorgeous!  But also this series as a whole is one of the most praised YA series out there.  Everyone I know who has read it just raves about how good it is.  Now that the series is complete I can marathon it!  There's also a movie of the first book that supposed to be really good (it's German because this series was originally written in German and I am waiting for the English release, obviously).

October 15

 Neverfade by Alexandra Bracken
#2 in The Darkest Minds series

Why I'm Excited:  Another YA series that has been getting a lot of hype and praise.  I never would have picked these books up based on cover appeal, but so many of my friends have loved these books that I am really interested in the series.

October 22

Allegiant by Veronica Roth
#3 in the Divergent series

Why I'm Excited:  Let's face it, this is probably the biggest release of October and probably one of the biggest releases of 2013.  Even though Insurgent was less than inspired for me, I am still excited to see how this series will play out.  I think I'll have to do a re-read of the whole series and marathon them back to back.  Maybe this will happen next year since the movie for Divergent will be coming out in March.

October 29

The Iron Traitor by Julie Kagawa
#2 in The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten series

Why I'm Excited:  You all know I'm a big fan of Julie Kagawa's writing, whether it be about Fairies or Vampries.  I really enjoyed the Iron Fey series and this spin off sounds really great.  I'll have to dive into it soon.

September 2013 New Reads

I know this is a few days late sorry guys!  I had friends visiting last weekend so I didn't have the opportunity to get this post out.  There are also a lot of really great releases for September, here are a few that I'm really excited about.

September 3

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

Why I'm Excited:  First I have to say I love the title, it's wonderful.  This book sounds crazy and suspenseful and I hope it's as dark of a thriller as I want it to be.

September 10

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake
#1 in the Goddess War series

Why I'm Excited:  I love the premise for this book.  What if supposedly immortal gods start developing strange and horrific diseases?  I love the take on Greek mythology and I can't wait to see where this will go.

September 17

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
#2 in The Raven Cycle

Why I'm Excited:  I really enjoyed The Raven Boys and I have to know what will happen next!  There was a lot of mythology introduced in the first book and I'm really interested in seeing it further explored.

Frozen by Melissa De La Cruz and Michael Johnston
#1 in the Heart of  Dread series

Why I'm Excited:  I love the setting for this series, a dystopian Las Vegas covered in ice?  Ok!  Sign me up.

3:59 by Gretchen McNeil

Why I'm Excited:  Gretchen McNeil isn't afraid to really get out there with her writing.  I love that she takes risks and writes horror for the YA genre, which is really under represented.  I love horror so of course I want to read this one!

September 24

Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

Why I'm Excited: I have to admit I am really drawn to this cover.  I love that it's not a person on the cover and the colors are beautiful.  I also really like the plot, it sounds like a unique idea and I'm excited to see how it is executed.

Vicious by Victoria Schwab

Why I'm Excited:  Everyone I know just raves about Victoria Schwab's writing, and I have yet to read one of her books (I am ashamed!).  If I'm correct this is her first jump into adult fiction and I'm excited to have a book that's a little more intense.

August 2013 New Reads

I have to admit, there aren't too many books coming out in August that I'm really excited for.  There's a bunch coming in September and October, but August is usually a slow month.  However there are a few, so let's discuss!

August 15

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke
#1 in the Between Series

Why I'm Excited:  This book has been getting a lot of hype about being something new and fresh in YA.  A lot of my friends who have gotten their paws on ARCs are raving about it, so I can't wait to read it for myself!

August 27

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

Why I'm Excited:  I'm excited for Two Boys Kissing largely due to the title and cover.  We get a TON of straight couples kissing covers (ie every Nicolas Sparks book EVER) but not many gay couples.  I love how this cover is designed exactly like so many hetero romances out there, but with two boys.  I am also really interested in the story and I hope that this book will provide the same outlet for GLBT teens as the characters in the novel.

Other Notable Releases

August 1 - Canary by Rachel Alpine

August 6 - Biting Bad by Chloe Neill
                   Infinity Glass by Myra McEntire
                   Elegy by Amanda Hocking

June and July 2013 New Reads

Hi guys, sorry I missed June's new reads, it was during my vacation.  However there aren't too many July releases I'm excited about and I still wanted to talk about some of the June books, so I'm combining June and July into one mega post.  Enjoy!

June 4

Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead
#1 in the Age of X series

Why I'm Excited: It's Richelle Mead, duh! I absolutely adored her Vampire Academy series and I really like the premise. I love sci-fi books that incorporate religion, I'm always really curious to see how it's done.

June 11

Belle Epoque by Elizabeth Ross

Why I'm Excited:  First, this cover is absolutely gorge!  I've also read some reviews praising Belle Epoque for it's well researched time period which makes me really excited.  I've read a few historical novels lately that seem very gimmicky, so I'm excited for a book that actually appreciates the setting.

Born of Illusion by Teri Brown

Why I'm Excited:  This sounds like the love child of The Raven Boys and The Diviners.  The spiritualism movement in the early 1900s is absolutely fascinating to me and I'm excited to read a story set in that time period.

June 25

Ink by Amanda Sun
#1 in the Paper Gods series

Why I'm Excited:  THAT COVER.  I love the concept for Ink, especially the setting.  I've read a lot of polarized reviews, some praising the authenticity of the Japanese setting while others condemning the typical YA tropes.  I'm curious to read Ink and form my own impressions.

June 27

Ashes on the Waves by Mary Lindsey

Why I'm Excited:  Yay for unusual folklore and Edgar Allen Poe retelling!  Ashes on the Waves has also gotten some really high praise so I'm very excited to check it out.

June 4 - The Elementals by Saundra Mitchell
The Impossibility of Tomorrow by Avery Williams
               PODs by Michelle K. Pickett
               Tidal by Amanda Hocking
               Elegy by Tara Hudson
               Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo
               Tides by Betsy Cornwell
               Abandon by Elana Johnson
When You Were Here by Daisy Whitney
The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

June 11 - Dance of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin
Spies and Prejudice by Talia Vance

June 18 - Star Cursed by Jessica Spotswood

July 2

The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

Why I'm Excited:  This sounds like a really cute summer read.  It sounds like there will be a lot of preconceived notions about a group of people that will be shattered once you get to know a person of that group.  It sounds cute and funny and great for the pool.

White Trash Zombie Apocalypse by Diana Rowland
#3 in the White Trash Zombie Series

Why I'm Excited:  I really loved the first book in this series, My Life as a White Trash Zombie and I'm really excited to continue the story of Angel.  I love that the zombies in this series aren't immediately rabid brain eaters and I loved that they aren't all sexy and sophisticated as so many other paranormal romance characters seem.  It's a really fun series and an interesting take on zombies and I think a good bridge between paranormal romance lovers and gross out zombies lovers.

July 2 - Awaken by Meg Cabot

July 8 - Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton

July 9 - Shadow of the Mark by Leigh Fallon

July 16 - Belladonna by Fiona Paul

July 23 - Starglass by Phoebe North

May 2013 New Reads

Hi everyone!  Long time no post!  I only wrote 3 posts in April and only 1 of them had anything to do with reading.  I guess I was just feeling the blog burnout and had to take some time to myself.  I think that's really important with blogging and youtubing because these ultimately are things I do for fun.  It's important to take breaks when things aren't so fun anymore.

Well, it's a new month and I feel refreshed, so let's talk about upcoming releases!

May 7

The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr

Why I'm Excited: I've played piano since I was 5 years old. For me it's always been about emotions and has really been a form of creative therapy. I feel really lucky that my parents never put expectations on me to perform at a certain level. I'm really interested to see if Lucy can learn to just love music (I only hope it doesn't become some freaky sexual relationship type story. I'd be really annoyed).

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
#1 in The Fifth Wave series

Why I'm Excited:  The 5th Wave has been making a lot of buzz already, and I have to admit I am very intrigued.  I've had multiple book sellers freak out over this book and tell me how absolutely amazing it is.  I will be in the book store picking it up the day it comes out.

May 14

Golden by Jessi Kirby

Why I'm Excited:  Golden sounds like a really cool mystery.  I really like the main character and it sounds like there is a lot of potential for character development.

May 21

Transparent by Natalie Whipple

Why I'm Excited:  I was so lucky to get an ARC of Transparent.  It sounds absolutely amazing.  I love a good organized crime drama and the added twist of invisibility makes Transparent sound so awesome.

May 28
Impostor by Susanne Winnacker
#1 in the Variants

Why I'm Excited:  This sounds like a really cool science fiction novel.  I love the FBI aspect.  It sounds so cool!

April 2

Stung by Bethany Wiggins

Why I'm Excited:  First of all this cover is wonderful.  Stung also sounds like an interesting sci-fi mystery and I'm curious to see what happens.

Light my Michael Grant
#6 in the Gone series

Why i'm Excited:  Light is the final book in a highly praised series.  I really need to start this series soon and now that the final book is out I think I will.
This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

Why I'm Excited:  This is What Happy Looks Like sounds a bit like You've Got Mail for teens.  I think this will be a cute and quick read.

April 23

Quintana of Charyn by Melina Marchetta
#3 in the Lumatere Chronicles

Why I'm Excited:  Ok I'll admit it.  I've never read anything by Melina Marchetta.  I know, I know.  I'm ashamed and I hope to rectify this soon!

March 5

The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett
#1 in The Arkwell Academy Series
DAC
Why I'm Excited:  Another magical boarding school story, but this one sounds cool because of the having dreams and then they come true aspect.  Also fun fact, Mindee Arnett will be doing a book signing at the Dayton, Ohio Books & Co. February 5

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Why I'm Excited:  Cinder was one of my favorite books of 2012.  It was a wonderful re-telling of Cinderella and I just fell in love with the characters.  I cannot wait to read what happens to Cinder and to meet new characters, this time with Little Red Ridinghood!  Scarlet is definitely my most anticipated book for February and 2012 in general.

Hysteria by Megan Miranda
