Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: Starters and Enders

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

I read Starters by Lissa Price over a year ago and while I didn't really like the story, the cover was striking.  Even a year and a half later this cover still stands out in my mind.

Like I said, it's striking.  In real life the cover is a super shiny silvery color which also really made it stand out on shelves.  Now, I'm not 100% sure but I think the author is German because this book was released in the US in 2012 and the second book, Enders, is scheduled for a 2014 release.  And of course for the release of book 2 they've changed the covers.

Yeah, no.  lol I really dislike these new covers, especially Enders.  The silvery whiteness of the first cover for Starters made it interesting and unique.  These new covers look like something I could have done in photoshop (and trust me, if your cover looks like something I could have done it's not good lol).

But what do you all think?  Do you like the colorful covers or the silver one?  Post in the comments below!

I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

Today I have great news, we got the cover for Cress, the third book in The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer!  I absolutely adored Cinder and Scarlet and Cress is definitely one of my most anticipated books of 2014.  I love the cover and I think it fits so well with the rest of the series.  The title font is to die for!  Do you like it?  Post in the comments below!

So I'm pretty sure everyone knows this, but the final book in Veronica Roth's Divergent series, Allegiant, has a cover.  I like it. They look good toghether. Now we just have to wait until October to get it!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: Isla and the Happily Ever After

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

WHY do publishers feel the need to change book covers on the final book of a series!?!?  We saw this with Fathomless by Jackson Pearce and Shades of Earth by Beth Revis and now they're doing it to Stephanie Perkins.

Now I know that Stephanie Perkins's books aren't a series specifically, but they take place in the same world and the characters make cameos in other books, so close enough.  Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door had similar covers that were cute and went together well.

I mean they're cute, and I really like the Lola cover, but they're not amazing.  What I love about these covers are the spines.  They are adorable and look great together on my shelf.

However with the third book in the "series", Isla and the Happily Ever After, we get new covers.

Now, I actually really like these covers.  I like the simplicity and the color schemes and that you can still tell the setting of each story.  But.  WHY do they have to change the design at the end of the series!?  I wish they had released a matching hardcover to the previous books and then these covers as the paperbacks.  It stinks for people like me who have the original covers and now their/my collection will not match.  Why do publishers feel the need to do this?  It seriously makes me want to not buy series until all of the books are released so everything can match.

What do you guys think?  Do you prefer the more literal and cute original covers or the more sophisticated re-design?  Do you think the new designs are worth the headache of a mid series change?  Do you not care about matching covers?  Let me know in the comments below!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: Star Cursed

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

I really love the premise for Jessica Spotswood's historical witch series, the first book Born Wicked, and I love the cover as well.

However with the upcoming second book, Star Cursed, the covers have had a bit of an update.

I think the original book portrays the historical elements of the series but the new covers show the witchy-ness more.  I do think I prefer the feel of the first book more, what do you all think?  Sound off in the comments!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: The Eternity Code

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

OK guys, this week is a bit of a rant.  As you guys know I am a really big fan of Julie Kagawa, and while I love the iron fey series I also really loved her vampire series called The Blood of Eden Series.  The first book, The Immortal Rules, was fantastic.  I also really liked the cover.

I know that there is white washing going on here (the main character is Japanese and this model is clearly Caucasian) but I still thought the cover fit the overall theme of the book very well.  You can tell exactly what kind of book you're getting when you look at this cover.  However, for the release of the second book in the series, The Eternity Cure, we get all brand new covers.

Ok so I don't hate these like most cover redesigns.  However I don't get as clear of an idea about the books.  They really could be about anything.  But they are a lot more unique than the original cover.

What do you guys think?  Do you prefer the more obvious first cover or the more vague re-designs?  Let me know in the comments below!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: The S-Word by Chelsea Pitcher

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

This week I wanted to talk about a 2013 debut.  The S-Word by Chelsea Pitcher is set to come out in May and I think the cover portrays the story perfectly.

The S-Word is about a girl named Lizzie who is bullied to suicide after getting caught in bed with her BFF Angie's boyfriend.  However the bullying doesn't stop with her death and Angie goes on a mission to find out who is behind it and to come to terms with her own influence on Lizzie's death.

I really like this cover.  I love how those terrible words like suicide, slut, and skank look like they are literally carved into the cover.  It a clear and evocative cover that completely draws me in.

What do you think?  Would you read this based on the cover alone?  Let me know in the comments below!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: A Darkness Strange and Lovely

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!
I just realized I didn't write any other posts since my last Friday Face Off, so sorry about that!  My keyboard is still  broken and typing with the onscreen keyboard is super annoying.  I'm getting a new one this weekend hopefully so I'll be back to reviewing soon, promise :).

This week I want to talk about A Darkness Strange and Lovely by Susan Dennard, #2 in the Something Strange and Deadly series set to release July 23, 2013 from HarperTeen.

I think these covers are so pretty!  The best part of these covers is the background.  I almost want to take the girl off the cover just so I can see what all is going on behind them.  I don't think these really portray the historical element of the novels (they're set in 1876, can you tell?) but they definitely convey the paranormal aspect very well.

What do you guys think?  Post in the comments!

Friday Face Off Cover Reaveal: Dance of the Red Death

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

I haven't done a Friday Face Off in a while and I have missed it!  I don't know how current this cover reveal is, but I love it so I really wanted to show it off.  This week I want to discuss Dance of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin, the sequel to her debut novel, Masque of the Red Death.  This final book in the duology set to come out April 23, 2013 from Greenwillow books.

I LOVE these covers!  They are stunning and go together so well.  I own Masque and in real life it has a beautiful iridescent sheen to it that really gives the cover a magical quality.  I haven't read it yet, but I really want to own this lovely pair to decorate my shelves.

What do you guys think?  Post in the comments!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: With All My Soul

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

This week is a pretty big one. The Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent is wildly popular (even though I haven't started this series yet (I know, what's wrong with me!?)) and the 7th book in the series, With All My Soul, is set to release April 2013.

That cover is beautiful!  I love the gold, I think it complements the rest of the series very well and brings a little lightness to these generally dark covers.

As a bonus this series is also being published in bindups with two books in one, which means more lovely covers!  The second bindup (books 3 and 4) is set to release November 13, 2012.  I love the inverted black and white, it gives a great sense of continuity while still separating the bindups from the individual books.  I love these covers, I must start this series soon!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: Dark Triumph

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat. Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story. I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

This week we'll be discussing Dark Triumph, the second book in the His Fair Assassin series by R.L. LaFevers.  Dark Triumph is set to release April 2013 and the first book in the series is Grave Mercy which came out earlier this year.

I love these covers.  I think they convey the feel of the series very well.  You look at these cover and you just know this series is historical and has something to do with tough women fighting back.  I would guess there's political intrigue and both political and physical warfare.  I've heard some awesome things about this series, but Gave Mercy is intimidatingly large (over 500 pages!).  I do want to start this series soon, but I'm kind of scared!

So what do you think of this series covers so far?  Have you read Gave Mercy?  Let me know in the comments below!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: This is What Happy Looks Like

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat.  Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story.  I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

Jennifer E. Smith is the queen of long titles!  Her book, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, has an adorable title and cover.  Her upcoming book, This is What Happy Looks Like, follows in suit.

These books aren't a series, but the covers look SO cute together!  I love the premise for both books and I really want to read them.  This is What Happy Looks Like comes out April 2013, and I'm really excited!

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: Clockwork Princess

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat.  Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story.  I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

Well this week I have a pretty big cover reveal.  Clockwork Princess is the third book in Cassandra Clare's popular Infernal Devices series which will be released March 19, 2013.

I think this cover is lovely.  I really like the book she's holding and I think her dress is really pretty.  I haven't read any of this series yet, but I've been told it's much better than The Mortal Instruments.  I do like how these two series intertwine and I'm looking forward to reading more, even if I wasn't too impressed with City of Bones.

Oh, here's the rest of the series, which I really like too.

Friday Face Off Cover Reveal: Dance of Shadows

Friday Face Off is a meme hosted by one of my favorite book bloggers Misty over at The Book Rat.  Usually this meme focuses on different cover designs for the same book and decides which is better for the story.  I wanted to take this meme and add a little twist to it today by discussing a cover reveal!

This week I wanted to discuss a debut.  Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black is set to release this December and you guys?  The cover is phenomenal.

Am I right?  I love the plain background and the model's red hair and how her tutu is made or rose petals.  It's very striking.

I have a confession, I love ballet stuff.  I love Center Stage, Breaking Pointe, Dance Moms, Dance Academy, Save the Last Dance, the list goes on and on.  But one ballet movie I really loved was Black Swan, because I LOVED the thriller/horror elements, and I really think Dance of Shadows will deliver the same feeling.

"in which the school’s dancers—prized for their beauty, grace, and discipline—become pawns in a world of dark, deadly demons" um, YES!
