Off the Shelf #21

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

Hey everyone!  This week is an exciting week because I've finished a couple books AND the Summer Wrap Up Read-a-Thon started this weekend!  The read-a-thon runs all week (you still have time to sign up!) and I'll be hosting a challenge tomorrow morning, so be sure to check back then.

Finished Reading

I finally finished Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne!  I've been working on this one for my A-Z challenge for a while and I have to admit it was kind of weird.  Parts of it were fantastic, but I think it suffered from try-hard syndrome.  It just tried too hard to be too many things.

I got kind of bored with Harbinger so I took a break and read An Abundance of Katherines by John Green.  It's SO cute!  I loved all of the math (I did take 9 math courses in college).  It's really great and I was LOLing pretty hard.

Currently Reading
Bumped by Megan McCafferty.  This is pretty dang weird so far.  I really like the writing style, but the story?  Yeah not sold on that one.

Up Next
Thumped by Megan McCafferty.  I won this ARC on goodreads (thanks Harper!).  This is part of my Review Copy Cleanup Challenge and it will have a special part in my post for tomorrow (you'll have to check and see!).

Off the Shelf #20

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

Hello everyone!  I haven't done this meme for a few weeks but that's ok because I haven't really been reading either.  Ugh I am getting SO far behind on my 100 book challenge, as goodreads so kindly reminds me.  I think I'm up to nine books behind, oh no this is not good.  I need a read-a-thon soon, anyone know of one coming up in the next month or so?  Because I could use one.

Finished Reading:
Yes, I succumbed and read Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James.  And yes, it was horrible.

I started this one on the plane ride to Florida, but didn't finish it until last week.  It was a great light read, very entertaining!

Currently Reading:
I'm about 100 pages into Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne and while it started of really weird (I mean really weird), it's starting to settle into a groove now and I'm enjoying it a lot more.

Up Next:

I'm not too sure yet.  I have a bunch of books I've started reading so I think my goal for the week will be to clean up my currently reading shelf on goodreads.

What's on your TBR shelf for the week?

Off the Shelf #19

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

So I thought I would resurrect this meme to let you all know that I am back from Florida!  It was a super fun trip and I'll post a few pics once I get them uploaded to my computer, but I can say with certainty that Harry Potter world was AMAZING and I kind of wish it was Harry Potter Studios and not Universal.  I also may have (and by may I mean did) gotten a bit emotional and shed a tear or two.  It was an emotional experience for me and I really want to go back at some point.

But a full vacation post will be coming soon!  So for now onto the meme :)

Finished Reading

I finished The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting just before I left for vacation.  I thought it was a great murder mystery, but the romantic part got a little tiring.  It was the D book in my A-Z author challenge, so now I'm only one month behind ;)

Currently Reading

My BFF Michelle recommended this book to me and I finally picked it up.  It's really great so far, so I'll be reviewing it soon!

Up Next

Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne is my E book for the A-Z author challenge, but it is WEIRD.  I'm not sold on this one and I'm worried it might be a case of cover fraud, but we'll see.  I haven't given up yet.

Off the Shelf #18

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

Oops I'm a day late this week!  I am back from work and I was so zonked but I did manage to read quite a bit for being away from home.  I finished two books this week, Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and Butter by Erin Jade Lange (this is an egalley that comes out in September).  I had mixed feelings about Shadow and Bone but ultimately really enjoyed it and Butter was very good and really hit close to home.  There will be a review a little closer to release date, so keep an eye out!

To Read This Week

Graceling by Kristen Cashore
I started Graceling by Kristen Cashore for the C book in my A-Z challenge and I love it so far.  I'm already half done, so I'm sure to finish this week.

Here's Hoping

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein (of course).  This is my book after Graceling, and then if I'm lucky enough to finish that, I'll start The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting which is the D book for my A-Z challenge.

Off the Shelf #17

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

This week I'm traveling for work, so I'm very pleased that I finished Pure by Julianna Baggott.  I still haven't started Code Name Verity (I just have such a hard time with kindle books!) but I did buy and start Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo and it's fantastic.  Seriously, I just love Russian people (*cough* Dimitri *cough*) and there is so much awesome potential in this book, I'm pretty sure I'll finish it quickly.

To Read This Week

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
I've been on a bit of a book buying ban the past couple weeks, but I had to make an exception for Shadow and Bone because everyone I know (including Veronica Roth) has been gushing over it.  And so far they're totally right.

Here's Hoping

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
Yeah, this has been on my list forever, but with being out for work I don't know if I'll be able to read it this week.

Off the Shelf #16

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

Well this week I did ok.  I finished an audio book of Stephen King's Cell (which started off awesome and then went really weird really fast) and finished Julie Kagawa's The Immortal Rules (very good vampire story, almost perfect but just a little lagging in the middle).  I've also started Pure by Julianna Baggott and I'm about 100 pages in, thanks to a 3 hour layover in the airport.  I didn't get to Code Name Verity, but I did finish an almost 500 page book, so that has to count for something.

I also didn't purchase any new books this week, which is good considering I have way too many books that i haven't read yet.  I think I'm going to go on a bit of a book buying ban until I knock those numbers back a bit.  I did borrow an audio book of Misery by Stephen King from my dad, so I'll probably be starting that in a couple weeks.

To Read This Week

Pure by Julianna Baggott
This is the B book for my A-Z challenge, and I've already started it so I'm pretty sure I'll finish it.  I know it's June and I'm supposed to be up to E already, but oopsies!

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
Gosh dang it I just cannot seem to start this one!  It's an egalley on my kindle and because I'm stuck in a hotel for work for the next 2 weeks, I HAVE to read this!  It's supposed to be so good, what is wrong with me!?

Here's Hoping

Flirting in Italian by Lauren Henderson

Don't you Wish by Roxanne St. Claire

If I get Pure and Code Name Verity finished, I'd like to work on these two egalleys.  We'll see how far I get!

Off the Shelf #15

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

So this week I deviated a bit from the plan.  I read Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and HOLY CRAP that book is hilarious!  It may be just the funniest book I've ever read.  I realized that I needed to read this book because I'm really running out of May quickly and I want to get up to letter D in the A-Z challenge (not sure that's going to happen).

I'm currently working on The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa and I think it's fantastic so far, especially the world building.

Books I Purchased

I got some books on my kindle for a really low price (yay!)

On my kindle I got Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik, which sounds like a really cute  contemporary take on Pride and Prejudice, and Witch Song by Amber Argyle, which I mostly got because of the really pretty cover.

To Read This Week

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
I AM going to read this book this week!  In addition to The Immortal Rules, this is one I really want to finish.

Here's Hoping

Flirting in Italian by Lauren Henderson
 Pure by Julianna Baggott

Flirting in Italian is a cute contemporary that comes out in June.  I got it for review from netgalley and I'm super excited to read it because I LOVE Italy!  Pure by Julianna Baggott is my next book in the A-Z challenge, and I'm really worried I'm not going to make it to D by the end of May, but I'm going to try!

So what's on your TBR for the week?

Off the Shelf #14

Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Shelf!  This is my way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

This week was a really good week.  I finished Insurgent and Purity (woo hoo!).  I didn't really start any of my wish list books, but I'm very proud to have finished the 2 I really wanted.

Books I Received or Purchased

In addition to a bunch of religion/spirituality books I purchased a copy of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and The Pregnancy Project by Gaby Rodriguez.  I've only heard amazing things about A Monster Calls and I'm totally drawn to the artwork on the cover and in the books, so of course I had to get it.  I've got a morbid curiosity about The Pregnancy Project.  I've heard mixed reviews, so we'll see.

Hoping to Read This Week

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
This is a book I received for review and it came out last week, so I have to finish it!

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
It just sounds so cool!  It's really long though, so I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it this week...

Here's Hoping

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

This is the first book in my author A-Z challenge, so I'm hoping to start that because I'm quickly running out of May.

So those are my reading plans for the week, what's on your TBR?

Off the Shelf #13

Hey everyone!  So I've decided to add a new meme to my weekend lineup.  I wanted to have a way of sharing any new books I receive or buy as well as let you all know what my reading plans are for the week and what I hope to get off my TBR shelf.

This week I bought one book from half price books and one book from books & co.

I didn't know much about Split by Swati Avasthi, but I remembered some of my blogging friends really liked it, so when I saw it in half price I had to snatch it up!  I've read Bad Girls don't Die by Katie Alender and really enjoyed it, so I had to pick up the 3rd book in the series, As Dead as it Gets.

Here's what I'm hoping to read this week

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

I went to the release book signing for Insurgent (which was awesome) and I'm about half way through the book, so I hope to wrap it up this week.

Purity by Jackson Pearce

I got Purity by Jackson Pearce from the library because I just happened to see it on their featured shelf.  I've read the first couple of chapters and I'm really liking it so far.  It's a very short book so I don't think I'll have any problems finishing it this week.

Here's Hoping

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

I was able to get this title a little early from netgalley and it sounds awesome!  It's my next review book to be read and comes out in a few weeks.

Start The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
I have no delusions that I'll be able to finish another 500+ page book, but I can at least get it started, right?

I hope this new meme will help me stay on track for the coming week.  I always seem to be too ambitious, so I hope this will keep me motivated!  What do you guys think?  Do you like the new format?  What are you planning on reading this week?
